HERMENEUTICS (Biblical Interpretation)
This course focuses on the authority, nature, and interpretation (hermeneutics) of the Scriptures. It is designed to help students work through issues that concern biblical interpretation. The course will evaluate tough questions concerning the inspiration and inerrancy of scripture. It will look at how the Church has interpreted the Scriptures throughout history and explore current trends in today’s time.
Upon completion of this course you will be able to:
- Exegete portions of the Bible, utilizing various tools in order to explain the meaning and significance of the text in today’s context.
- Recognize different hermeneutical approaches and one’s personal presuppositions about how to interpret scripture.
- Identify major phases in the history of biblical interpretation
- Demonstrate an awareness of the importance of historical-cultural backgrounds, sensitive and literary issues for the task of biblical interpretation
